The Mobile Gadgeteer Looks at the Palm Centro

MM Centro.jpg

Matthew Miller over at The Mobile Gadgeteer has written an article on the Palm Centro. I always enjoy reading Matthew’s articles. Matthew said that he wasn’t too impressed with the early rumor photos of the Centro (neither was I, especially that white unit) but that he quickly changed his mind after receiving a review unit from Palm. You know, from most of the reviews and articles I’ve read about the Centro, most people really like the way the Centro looks and feels. I’ve read a few negative comments though about the Centro having so much plastic and that it feels and looks cheap.

Matthew didn’t seem to think that the Centro looked cheap. In fact he said that the Centro, which is made of durable molded plastic, feels rock solid in your hand.

His thoughts on the display were that it’s very crisp and bright and that he was surprised to see the 320x320 resolution on the Centro’s 1.56 inch by 1.56 inch display. Some people have commented that the Centro’s display looks better than some of the newer Treos.

Matthew felt that at $99.99, the Centro isn’t a tough choice.

IMHO, this is the best Palm OS device that has been released in a few years and has all the specs you will find on the larger Treos, but in a more compact form factor that I think is attractive in today’s smartphone market.

I’ve read very similar opinions on other sites. It sounds like Palm hit the right spot with the Centro with its looks, form factor, and price.
