SanDisk has announced their newest format and capacity to the SD card family: microSD High Capacity (microSDHC) 6GB flash card, which is available for $99.99.

Palm Centro and Treo 500v owners would sure have plenty of extra memory with one of these 6GB microSDHC cards.

Palm’s website states under the Centro specifications that the Centro can support a microSD card up to 4GB. In a thread in the TreoCentral Centro forum, forum members are discussing “microSD or microSDHC in Centro?”.

I am running a 6-gig micro SDHC card with no issues. I formatted using CardReader through my computer as Fat 32. In CardReader it showed as a 5.8 gig card. In Sprint’s Music Manager it only showed my card as having 2 gigs available. However, I transferred in about 1.6 gigs of music, then copied several movies onto the card, and when I went back into Sprint Music Manager it said I had 3.5 more gigs of space. So while it reports incorrectly in places, you do have access to all the storage space.

It’s nice that such a large capacity SD card is available for the Centro, if it actually works in the Centro. I doubt if I’d get one that large if I get a Centro. I have a couple of 1GB SD cards for my Treos and I’ve hardly filled up even 1/3 of the memory on either card.

I just checked the SanDisk site for the product compatibility for the Centro and the site recommends the SanDisk microSDHC™ 4GB card which sells for $79.99. Hmmm, I’ll be watching that thread in the TC forums to see if anyone else has had success with a 6GB microSD card.
